OK group, I am sure that this has come up here 1000 times before, but
help me out. What I plan to do in my backyard (which is a small level
yard and a huge sloping hill)is to build a 2 foot tall retaining wall
out of pressure treated lumber, using long enough posts to support a 4
foot tall picket fence.

I have seen similar posts from people who were flamed saying that
pressure treated lumber will only last 10 to 15 years, etc etc. To me
that is acceptable. If this whole thing lasts me 10 years I will be
happy. I have two daughters that are very young, and creating a safe
environment for them is my main concern. The cost and ease of
installation are a factor for me too.

Please advise.

Pressure treated is not only recommended, it's required for below/soil contact
applications in many areas.

I just built an 8' x 20' x 2' out of 6x6 raw oak timbers--probably won't last as
long as PT (insects, et al.), but it is quite attractive (and aromatic) <g>
